Merry Christmas

Here our little babies sleeping in their bed together on Christmas Day. They seem to love cuddle time with each other and it keeps their little bodies nice and warm. You can not tell in this picture, but they are wearing Christmas outfits. They are size newborn so they are a little big, but they are big in the cuteness factor too!

We are doing well. The babies have been having little "breathing" spells. We talked to the doctor today and she informed us that they have to go 5-7 days with out a spell. So we are looking at a week or more left in the NICU. Which is fine, we want them to get better and be nice and strong to come home.

I am recovering well from the C-section, far better than I thought I would be. I have been surprised at how well I have been able to "bounce" back after all of that. In fact today I asked to half my pain meds. I know that might seem a little crazy, but when I am on pain meds I feel a little crazy. So if they are halved maybe I will feel even better.... Now I just have to be patient and get these babies ready to face the world. Or, face life with Mommy, Daddy and Addison!

Addison Meets Her Babies

During the pregnancy we have called the babies, brother and sissy. She loves her babies and has been practicing being a good big sister! She carries her baby dolls around all day loving on them getting ready for her brother and sissy. With her interest in the babies we were not sure how she would react when she finally did meet them. We found out last night when she met them. Daddy held her when we went in to meet them. She was very still and very quiet. She was sweet though and waved by to them when we left.

More Baby Fun

Daddy holding his little baby boy. I love watching him with the babies. You can just see the love he has for them.
Daddy holding his baby girl. Jon was so sweet. He waited to hold the babies until I could hold them first.

Mommy holding Talon for the first time.

They Came Two By Two

I have been waiting many months to post about our little family growing by two. As of December 23rd our family grew to a large family of 5. Little Sophia Leigh was born at 2:32 am and weighed 5lbs 8 ozs. And Talon Robert was born at 2:33 am and weighed 5lbs 3ozs. They were born almost five weeks early. I was 35 weeks and two days pregnant when they were born.

The Birth Story

I started having contractions weeks ago. But those contractions did not produce labor so I was told to bear with them and inform the doctor if they worsen. So on Wednesday December 22nd. I thought was like any other day, full of fun contractions.....so I dealt with them and went and did my normal activities.

Jon texted me that morning and asked how I was feeling. My text back said, "I am contracting, I am sure I will just die a slow and lonely death."
Finally he came home and I fixed us dinner and we left our for Church. (Because after all, this is the norm. We just have to deal with it.) During church I sat there and contracted like crazy and had overwhelming hot flashes. But I kept telling myself, "this is good, just deal, just deal." FINALLY we made it home and I told Jon, please take Addison I need to lay down. I thought this would make me feel better, but NO! It was worse, so bad I began to cry. Jon said, "Honey are you ok?" (Around 10:30 pm)
"No, go get your bags ready." I could not believe those words came from my mouth. I was saving them for when something big happened, like my water breaking. But I knew I was hurting far worse than any normal person should have too...so we were going to get relief. The worse part came when he called his parents to let them know we were going to the hospital. I thought if we wake them up for nothing they are never going to trust me again....but they were notified and I think they were excited. After he hung up the phone I told him. "NO ONE IS TO BE EXCITED, about me HURTING!" I know...it was exciting. But when you have contractions you are not in a happy, joy, joy mood.
Jon loaded everything up. I am so thankful that I listened to him the day before when he told me to pack my bags and get ready. (I thought it would be bad luck to pack too soon...)But I packed them, so he loaded everything into the car.
Don't worry, we remembered Addison who was sleeping in her little bed. We left around 11:00pm. (oh by the way, I called the Doc to let him know we were on our way.)
So we get there and get checked in, and sadly I felt a little better. I was so upset, I just knew I had woke everyone up for NOTHING! Jon was going to kill me, Addison was going to kill me, and Jon's parents were going to kill me! I was still having contractions but they did not seem to hurt as bad. So they hooked me up, and started the watching game. I asked Jon please go look at the monitor and tell me how big they are. That rascal goes over there and says, "Hannah, that's a little bitty thing."

In my head panic starts, oh great I am a hypochondriac. Then he shows me and laughs..."You are really contracting, were having babies. "

A big sigh of relief. Then the nurse comes in to check for dilation. She informed me we were at a two.
Thirty minutes later the doc comes into the room to talk to me and see whats going on. We talk, he also checks for dilation. I am now a 4. WOW! It sets in that we are having babies!!!! He gets the ultrasound machine to check the babies and see where they are located. We find out that our little Talon has moved and we will have to do a C-Section pretty quick before I dilate much more. So everything starts going crazy around me. Everyone, telling me things, asking me things, and wanting things...aka, blood. And if you have ever been in labor, you know how easy it is to talk during contractions. But they take me away from Jon, which I DO NOT like, and start preparing me for delivery in the OR. I was calm though because I knew they would get me ready and let him come back. They decided to do a spinal block, for several reasons but one being that it would be quick. So they gave me a spinal and started waiting for it start working. But it never did, so we had to do plan B. Which was completely put me under. I am not sure why, but it scares me a little every time I am put under. When they told me this, I just wanted to see Jon. I knew he could not stay with me, but I just wanted to see him. So I asked the doctors, and with hesitation they let him in for just a second. As soon as I saw him, I started crying. This all was a lot to process, and a lot to deal with. So he came in, gave me sweet kisses and told me that this was ok, and he would be waiting for all of us outside. I needed him to say that...

So I woke up to a very sweet, but loud nurse yelling my name. Ok, maybe she was not yelling but it seemed like she was! As I woke up, I realized Jon was there....that was good. Then I realized I hurt, I really hurt. I start crying and tell Jon, I am hurt, I am really hurt. He said I know they are working on you, its ok. Apparently its not suppose to hurt that bad, because my spinal block would have worked. But it did not. So as soon as I came out of my sleep, I realized I was in pain and had to wait for the morphine to work. It was rough, good grief. When would this end? But even in that pain, I still wanted to know about my babies. So Jon told me everything that happened while I slept.....FINALLY, I was able to deal with the pain, and was able to see my sweet babies. They wheeled me over to the NICU. So, I never left my bed. But I was able to see the little babies that I had been carrying for the past 8 months.

They are beautiful and wonderful. We love them so much already.

Cooking with Memaw

A few weeks ago we went to Birmingham to meet Memaw and Pawpaw. We were so happy to find out Memaw was bringing the ingredients for Fried Peach Pies! Every Pregnant ladies dream. I can eat these and even eat more than one and say, "it is for the babies" and no one will say a thing. They might think something, but they wont say, "Whoa, Hannah you might want to slow down." Memaw let Addison help her make the pies and Addison loved it! We are so glad that we are able to spend good time with all of the great grandparents! They are so special to us and really special to a little girl!

Tis The Season For Santa!!

We went today to see that jolly fella. Nana and Papa went as well and Addison loved it! She thought she was so special for them to come see her. It is so nice living close to Nana and Papa. Addison goes through withdrawals when we don't see them on a regular basis. I think we all go through withdrawals when we don't see them! What are we going to do if we ever move away??

When we sat her with Santa, she was very still and quiet. (Not a normal thing for her...) But she did not scream or panic. He gave her a candy cane and she loved it! While we waited in line to pay for our picture she then wanted to tell Santa what she wanted. I asked her what she was going to tell him she wanted and she told me, "passy." That silly girl!

Addison found a singing Santa and had to sing and Dance with him! It was so cute! I have video that I will post tomorrow (maybe).
All of the fun wore a girl out. So she claimed Papa's shoulder as her resting place.

Christmas Spirit

I think Jon and I have been so busy that we are forgetting the holiday spirit. We have been worrying about getting ready for the babies that we have not had time to soak in the holidays. So this morning I decided Addison had to dress for the season. We are also planning on taking Addison to see Santa sometime this week! I am super excited about taking her to see Santa. She has been practicing her "ho ho ho's" all week! Such a smart girl!
I am trying to get in the mood, and keep myself busy with holiday fun! I need to get my mind off of babies! In a few weeks I will have nothing but babies to think about so I really need to take advantage of having just one little girl to have fun with.
So Happy Holidays from the Matlocks! And yes this is as close to a Christmas Card as anyone is gonna get this year....

Babies Room

Nana Matlock came this weekend to help us get ready for the babies to arrive. I am so thankful that she came! Jon and Nana were able to get so much done, which puts all of us at ease for these babies to get here. Having the two cribs together and washing their bedding has really made me realize that we are having TWO babies! I sometimes do not believe the ultrasound pictures or the doctors when they talk about two babies....but I am afraid they are right. So I am so glad Nana came to help me (well Jon) get ready. I was really starting to stress that we were not ready, but not anymore!

SO little babies...lets go already!

I went today to the doctor today to only be sad when I left. Apparently these little ones are snugly inside and do not want to get out in the cold! Because they are not ready to make their appearance...but Mommy's body is READY! .....I am well done!

But It is good that they are getting big and healthy. I know, I can hear you all say that as you read my craziness.....but when you have twins in your belly, we will talk. Until then, just be encouraging and cheerful. Because I am neither, but I am trying.

So this week I am going to try and fill my time with things to distract me from being the size of a house and the pains of late pregnancy...so I am sure I will be updating you to death! Get ready....

Tangled

So we took Addison to see her first movie! We were both a little nervous as to how she would like it and our nervous feelings were for nothing. That little girl loved it! She sat through the previews and the movie! We were both so proud of her. She looked so big to us, as she sat in her own little seat. When the movie started she looked at her daddy and said, "wow. " It was the cutest thing ever!
Jon and I both loved this movie! I hope we own it one day...it was a movie that reminded me of the older fairy tales...you know Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. So if you are looking for a good movie for your little one here it is! We did not see it in 3D. Jon and I are not the biggest fans of 3D for two reasons....one, you have to wear those glasses and I get a headache from them. 2, it costs more! You already pay a ton to go, so we don't spend the extra. Which is why we went ahead and took Addison to see her first movie before she was two. (She was free) Ok, that wasn't the only reason, but it did play a huge role in the decision making!
